NL2120 is a ten-year research and innovation programme supported by the Dutch Growth Fund, bringing together government, research institutes, businesses, and NGOs to make Nature-based Solutions (NbS) the default option in spatial decision-making.

Building on the strength of this unique Dutch coalition, NL2120 extends its vision internationally, working with partners in West Africa, South-East Asia, and Europe to create enabling conditions for the sustainable implementation and upscaling of Nature-based Solutions.

How We Work

NL2120 operates through the Dutch Diamond approach: a pre-competitive collaboration of public sector, private sector, knowledge institutions, and NGOs. This model brings together cutting-edge science, practical expertise, and global partnerships to develop scalable, sustainable solutions for water, coastal, and urban challenges.

Internationally, NL2120 works closely with EcoShape and IUCN NL as key implementing partners, alongside the broader NL2120 consortium.

Menu of Services

The NL2120 consortium partners bring decades of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and scaling Nature-based Solutions across coasts, deltas, and urban areas worldwide. The services below draw on that collective expertise. They are organised across five types of support, and can be tailored to your specific context and stage of project development.

    • Strategic Advisory Services – Guidance, independent assessment, and quality assurance to strengthen NbS strategies, policies, and projects. Individual experts are available to provide tailored support on any relevant NbS topic.
    • Analytical and Diagnostic Services – Structured analyses and scans to understand systems, evaluate options, and support decision-making.
    • Capacity building, facilitation, and bringing parties together – Training, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation to strengthen collaboration and enable implementation.
    • Best Practices and Knowledge Development – Development of guidelines, tools, and knowledge products to support replication and scaling up.
    • Support in attracting investments – Support in structuring NbS initiatives into feasible and fundable projects.
