Solutions

Various possibilities exist for using nature as a solution to societal challenges. In other words: the deployment of Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Think of Room for the River, where nature areas can collect water during high water, or more greenery in cities that provides cooling. The projects that NL2120 supports come up with solutions that are based on the power of nature and offer benefits to both people and nature.

In the Netherlands, we already showed on a local scale that Nature-based Solutions work - from floodplain nature during sand extraction in the river area to the natural climate buffers and the Sand Motor off the coast of South Holland. But to deploy these successes on a large scale, more knowledge is needed. We do not yet always know exactly how natural solutions behave or how effective they are. Profit models are still developing, and the gains for biodiversity remain difficult to predict. This is where NL2120 makes a difference. We do this by embedding, scaling up and making Nature-based Solutions practical and cost-effective, with the aim of creating new business models that contribute to a sustainable future.
