Our approach

The partners in NL2120 focus on opportunities and barriers around the application of natural solutions.
We analyse and answer questions from different perspectives:

Physical-ecological: How effective are Nature-based Solutions and how can they be applied in a changing climate?
Socioeconomic: What are the costs and benefits of major infrastructure Nature-based Solutions to society and broad welfare?
Institutional: How do we ensure proper collaboration across sectors and integration into regulations when applying Nature-based Solutions?

Applying knowledge

We live through these questions in practice, at pilot sites and in areas such as the peat meadows of Friesland and the delta cities of South Holland. In this way, we ensure that the knowledge we share is based on practical experiences.

Based on the accumulated knowledge and practical experiences, we then draw up guidelines for government implementation and policy programs.

Areas that want to be taken a step further with accumulated knowledge may qualify for help from the NL2120 consortium with a voucher scheme.

Five landscape types

We use the knowledge to further develop a future vision for five landscape types: coastal, peat and river areas, high sandy soils and cities. These are not demarcated areas, especially in a small country like the Netherlands. This is why we continue to work on solutions and how best to apply them in various forms of collaboration (Communities of Practice, workshops and pilots). In the Netherlands, but also abroad. Because what we discover here, we share with the rest of the world.

Scaling up natural solutions

We ensure further upscaling by helping companies and organisations involved apply the knowledge, both nationally and internationally. To avoid lacking manpower when scaling up is possible later on, vocational schools are also connected.
